ETHANOL SCLEROSIS CAN BE A SAFE AND USEFUL TREATMENT FOR PERICARDIAL CYST

We report the case of a 41-year-old man with a pericardial cyst treate d by percutaneous aspiration and ethanol injection. He was referred to our hospital because of electrocardiographic abnormality. On admissio n, chest x-ray revealed a large pericardial cyst in the right cardioph renic angle. The cyst was examined by echocardiography, computed tomog raphy, and cytological analysis of aspiration fluid from the cyst. Eth anol sclerosis was applied for treatment of the cyst, which had contin ued to increase in size. There was no recurrence of the cyst 6 months after the treatment. Percutaneous ethanol sclerosis can be the first c hoice of treatment for pericardial cyst.
