H-3-beta-Alanine binding was studied in Krebs-Ringer bicarbonate-buffe
red (KRB) medium, or the same medium made Na+-free (KRB-Na+). Even at
low H-3-beta-alanine concentration, binding in the presence of sodium
was inhibited by the beta-alanine uptake inhibitor arecaidine and by s
trychnine. The results indicate that beta-alanine binds to uptake site
s when using media with physiological concentrations of sodium.
