Ms. Alhumayyd et al., ASCORBIC-ACID POTENTIATES THE ANTIINFLAMMATORY EFFECTS OF ALPHA-TOCOPHEROL ON THE CARRAGEENAN-INDUCED RATS PAW EDEMA, Medical science research, 24(9), 1996, pp. 613-614
Administration of ascorbic acid (50-600 mg kg(-1), i.p.) or alpha-toco
pherol (100-1200 mg kg(-1), i.p.) to rats produced a dose-dependent in
hibition of the carrageenan-induced rat's paw oedema. When alpha-tocop
herol (100 mg kg(-1), i.p.) was given together with various doses of a
scorbic acid (i.e. 50, 100 or 300 mg kg(-1), i.p.), a much more signif
icant reduction was seen in the inflammatory response. The present res
ults show that ascorbic acid potentiates the anti-inflammatory effects
of alpha-tocopherol on the carrageenan-induced inflammation in rats.
