B. Stagemarroquin et al., INTERNAL AUTOCRINE REGULATION BY ERYTHROPOIETIN OF ERYTHROLEUKEMIC CELL-PROLIFERATION, Experimental hematology, 24(11), 1996, pp. 1322-1326
Antisense oligomers (18 mers) corresponding to the erythropoietin and
erythropoietin receptor 5' coding sequences cause marked suppression o
f proliferation of several lines of erythroleukemic cells. In these sy
stems, phosphorothioate protected sense oligomers are inhibitory, whil
e the unmodified sense oligomers have no significant-effect on cell gr
owth. These data indicate that proliferation of some erythroleukemic c
ells is under internal autocrine regulation by erythropoietin and its
receptor.
