Abstract
The thermal treatment of Pt foil model catalysts under UHV conditions leads to an enhanced activity for H-2-D-2 exchange. For the enhanced a ctivity, the UHV atmosphere, a temperature of 1073. K and a Cl-impurit y are essential. This was identical with the surface roughening behavi or of Pt foils upon the UHV treatment reported previously (Ref. [7]). These results indicate that the UHV treatment brought about a rougheni ng of the surface and the rough surface resulted in an enhanced activi ty.
