PREPARATION OF TRIFLUORMETHYLHALOGEN IODA TE(I) SALTS (CH3)(4)N(-) (X=F,CL,BR) AND TRIFLUORMETHYLTRIFLUORMETHOXY IODATE(I) (CH3)(4)N+CF3IOCF3-()CF(3)IX()

We describe the preparation of new trifluormethyliodate(I) salts CF(3) IX(-) (X = F, Cl, Er, OCF3). (CH3)(4)N+CF3ICl- and (CH3)(4)N+CF3IBr- a re obtained via addition of CF3I with the corresponded tetramethylammo nium halogenide. (CH3)(4)N+CF3IOCF3- is synthesized by comproportionat ion of (CH3)(4)N+CF3ICl- with CF3OCl under formation of Cl-2 at -78 de grees C. (CH3)(4)N+CF3IF- is formed either, through thermolysis of (CH 3)(4)N+CF3IOCF3- under seperation of COF2, or reaction of CF3I with (C H3)N+OCF3-. The thermolabile compounds have been characterized by i.r. , Raman, F-19-, C-13 NMR spectroscopy.
