NTT introduced its current open and transparent procurement procedures
16 years ago. These procedures, which do not make a distinction betwe
en foreign and domestic companies, have enabled the company to procure
a broad range of foreign products, especially high-tech items, which
now play a crucial role in NTT's operations. NTT also has been underta
king a variety of measures to procure competitive products from throug
hout the world, to help the corporation respond effectively to an incr
easingly competitive business environment. As a result of such efforts
; NTT's procurements from non-Japanese companies in fiscal 1995 reache
d a value of 152 billion yen.
