In this correspondence, we obtain a general form for the generating ma
trices of the eight types of discrete sine transforms. These matrix fo
rms can be used to study the performance of the different discrete sin
e transforms as substitutes of the Karhunen-Loeve transform and will a
llow us Co show in a very sh straightforward way that the discrete sin
e transforms, as the discrete cosine transforms, are asymptotically op
timal for any finite order Markov process.
