This research investigates the hypothesis that the function relating e
nplaned pass angers to flight frequency differs for non-stop vs. conne
cting flights. Two short haul models far air transportation era estima
ted. each with five levels of service. The first model employs a singl
e function relating enplaned passengers to flight frequency for all fi
ve service levels. while the second model employs two flight frequency
functions. one flight frequency function for each of two levels of no
nstop service and a second flight frequency function for each of three
levels of connecting service. The explanatory power of the two-flight
frequency model exceeds that of the single flight frequency model.
