Abstract
The author gives a brief overview of the basic mechanisms of action of contrast enhancing agents in MR imaging and discusses agents currentl y available, and agents soon to be available, under the classification : extra-cellular fluid space marker agents, hepatobiliary agents and o ral agents. Likely future developments in these and other areas are br iefly surveyed.
