Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (MAHA) is a rare but severe complica
tion of neoplastic disease. The diagnosis of thrombotic microangiopath
y is based on a triad of a hemolytic anemia with schistocytes, thrombo
cytopenia, and renal failure. Carcinoma-associated MAHA and chemothera
peutic-induced MAHA have been described. Because of differences concer
ning prognosis and treatment it is important for the clinician io dist
inguish these two syndromes. However, to our knowledge, this is the fi
rst case of a sarcoma-associated thrombotic microangiopathy.
