INFLUENCE OF SN ADDITION ON THE MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES OF AMORPHOUS FE-SI-B ALLOYS CONTAINING TI

Ti contained as an impurity in amorphous Fe-Si-B alloy ribbons induces surface crystallization during casting and as a result deteriorates t he magnetic properties. In order to suppress the surface crystallizati on, we added a small amount of Sn to the alloy. The results show furth er degradation of the magnetic properties, which is contrary to the re sults for alloys containing Al. This inconsistency suggests a differen ce in the effect of the impurities on the nucleation and the surface e nergy of crystallites.
