Abstract
The influence of root age on the ginsenosides and root weight of Panax quinquefolium was investigated. Root weight, and the ginsenosides Rb- 1, mRb(1), Re and Ro increased with the age of the root. Differences o btained for the ginsenosides Rb-2, mRb(2), Re, mRc, Rd, mRd, Rg(1), an d gypenoside XVII with the age of the root were small. It was found th at ginseng harvested after only 3 yr contained lower amounts of ginsen osides than ginseng harvested after 4 yr.
