Ka. Lindahl et al., ALLOY PHASE-ANALYSIS FROM MEASUREMENTS OF BULK MAGNETIC-PROPERTIES, Metallurgical and materials transactions. A, Physical metallurgy andmaterials science, 27(10), 1996, pp. 2958-2965
Measurements of bulk magnetic properties were investigated to evaluate
whether they can be used to reveal the microstructure and phase stabi
lity of alloys. Specifically, phase transformations in aluminum-copper
alloys were followed with magnetic susceptibility measurements. The r
esults suggest that bulk magnetic measurements can be used to predict
microstructure and, thus, properties of alloys. The ability to charact
erize alloy properties and phase stability through correlation, with e
lectromagnetic measurements may allow significant improvements in the
nondestructive evaluation of advanced alloy properties and the predict
ion of service life.
