Differential hybridization of cDNA libraries obtained from brain and l
ungs of rats maintained at 80% oxygen has shown alterations in mRNA co
ntent of some genes. Concentration of mRNA for NADH dehydrogenase and
cytochrome b decreased in both brain and lungs. Along with that, lower
concentrations of mRNA of cytochrome c oxidase and to an unknown gene
were detected in lungs, and higher concentrations of mRNA transcripts
of the specific identifier sequence (ID), an unknown gene, and a gene
probably encoding calmodulin were found in brain.
