This article addresses the failures and inadequacies of current approa
ches to dealing with class as an issue in psychological theory and psy
chotherapy, Using a deconstructive framework, many factors associated
with class definitions are identified, The goal is to draw attention t
o the issues surrounding these differences without promoting a reducti
onistic or formulaic framework. The article calls for the development
of new language to address the diversities of class without sanctionin
g the hierarchical framework upon which our understanding of class and
class divisions rests, Additionally, practical concerns for the psych
otherapist wishing to deal with the diversity of class are addressed.
