Angular distributions for the differential cross section and three deu
teron analyzing powers iT(11), T-20, and T-22 Of the reaction <(d)over
tilde p-->He-3> pi(0) have been measured over the whole angular domai
n at 20 energies close to threshold (0.03<T-pi(c.m.)<10.2 MeV). The di
fferential cross section and tensor analyzing power T-20 both show str
ong variation in energy and angle due to interference between S- and P
-wave pion production, whereas iT(11) and T-22 remain consistent with
zero over the whole experimental range. All the data at different ener
gies and angles fall on universal curves when plotted as functions of
the single variable p(pi)>cos Theta, evaluated in the c.m. The broad f
eatures of the results are in line with theoretical expectations.
