Films of the compound Dy0.67Ca0.30MnO3+/-d have been prepared using mo
lecular beam epitaxy. Dy0.67Ca0.30MnO3+/-d has been found to be an ins
ulator with an energy gap of 140 meV. It exhibits an apparent diamagne
tic response at low temperature when cooled in a magnetic field, but i
s actually a ferrimagnet. The apparent diamagnetism is a consequence o
f the more rapid growth with decreasing temperature of the magnetizati
on of the sublattice antialigned with the field relative to that align
ed with the field. At low temperatures there is a modest magnetoresist
ance.
