The temperature dependence of the Cl-35 NQR spectra has been measured
for Iq modulated incommensurate bis(4-chlorophenyl) sulfone between 30
0 and 6 K. Large thermal fluctuations of the modulation wave are found
to smear out the typical incommensurate edge singularities over a ran
ge of 10 K below the paraelectric-incommensurate transition T-I. The g
radual evolution of the modulation wave from the plane wave to the bro
ad multisoliton lattice regime has been observed. The soliton density
n(s) says however high over the whole incommensurate phase.
