Abstract
An atomic-scale model is developed to analyze interlayer coupling in p ermalloy/silver/permalloy GMR spin valves. The coupling in a smooth in terface spin valve is assumed to be anti-ferromagnetic due to interlay er electron scattering. With rough silver/permalloy interfaces, the co upling remains anti-ferromagnetic even with the enhanced magnetostatic energy.
