Anew species of crab, Lobocarcinus pustulosus (Cancridae: Lobocarcinin
ae), is described from a single near-complete specimen from the Cavers
ham Sandstone (early Altonian Stage, late early Miocene) near Waikouai
ti, Otago, South Island, New Zealand. The specimen represents the firs
t report of the genus in the Pacific region and only the second genus
of cancrid crab to have been recorded from New Zealand.
