T. Ohtsu et al., OFF-TRACK PERFORMANCE OF PSEUDO SIDE ERASING WRAPAROUND HEADS FOR DISK-DRIVE APPLICATION, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 32(5), 1996, pp. 3491-3493
Side writing effects of a thin film wraparound (WA) head which records
a parenthesis shaped (''['') transition were investigated. The 60 deg
ree inclination of the transition shows very low sensitivity for an MR
reading head due to azimuth loss. The side writing width of the WA he
ad was 0.05 mu m for a recording density range from 12.5 kfci to 50 kf
ci. The side writing width of the conventional head, however, changes
from 0.62 mu m in 12.5 kfci to 0.29 mu m in 50 kfci. The WA head is ca
pable of self-writing embedded servo. Maximum free data zone width for
a disk drive with a density of 10 kTPI, having positioning accuracy o
f 0.3 mu m, 0.5 mu m with the WA head compared to 0.37 mu m with the c
onventional head.
