Abstract
Acicular alpha-Fe nanoparticles were prepared by sodium borohydride re duction of ferrous chloride in the presence of the liquid crystalline system, C(12)EO(4)/water. The shape of the acicular particles was temp lated by the colloid and a magnetic field. The acicular particles obta ined from the lamellar phase were 50 similar to 150 nanometers long an d 5 nanometers wide. The product also included some spherical particle s of 10 similar to 15 nanometers in diameter. The saturation magnetiza tion was 94 emu/g and the coercivity was 420 Oe.
