Results on the helical magnetic anisotropy in positive magnetostrictiv
e amorphous glass-covered magnetic wires are presented. Measurements o
f the circumferential magnetization component in Fe77.5Si7.5B15 amorph
ous glass-covered wires show the existence of a non diagonal anisotrop
y component that determines an inclination of the easy axis of magneti
zation in the inner region of as-cast wires. Applied torque leads to a
n increase of the azimuthal magnetization and contributes to the incre
ase of the easy axis inclination, determining an increase of the switc
hing field at which the axial magnetization reverses occurs in these w
ires. The torsion sensitivity of wires after glass removal is higher t
han that of glass-covered wires.
