This article presents an alternative method to compute the capacitance
coefficients of a system of rectangular thick patches on a multilayer
ed substrate. Following the M-strips, previously developed to analyze
infinite length transmission lines, the conductors are modeled by a se
t of zero-thickness plates at the same potential. The capacitance coef
ficients of the model structure are obtained after applying the Galerk
in's method in the spatial domain. A suitable approach for computing t
he static spatial Green's function is also presented. (C) 1996 John Wi
