Two techniques for implementing symbolic substitution (SS) using one-o
f-many coding are presented. Both techniques involve simultaneous reco
gnition of multiple rules and hence reduce the complexity of SS implem
entation. Based on these new implementations, some factors that influe
nce simultaneous recognition of rules are identified. It is shown usin
g illustrations that the one-of-many coding is an optimal coding techn
