EPIZOOTIC PESTE-DES-PETITS RUMINANTS IN P ERIURBAN HERDS OF DAKAR - ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE

During an outbreak of Peste des Petits Ruminants in Dakar, in goat her ds, important losses occured in terms of morbidity (reduction in milk production) and mortality. The losses, estimated at minima, were accou nted for about fifteen millions CFA francs for a three-month period. T he authors propose measures to avoid such outcomes for small herders i nvesting in an activity providing them with daily gains that are far f rom marginal.
