Abstract
A technique has been developed for the qualitative determination of lo w-molecular-weight organic acids in radioactive, mixed hazardous waste s using thermospray liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. A tank wa ste was analyzed, and the results indicated the presence of citric, gl ycolic, acetic, and nitrosoiminodiacetic acid (NIDA). Further investig ation revealed NIDA was formed under acidic conditions with die reacti on of iminodiacetic acid and the high nitrate/nitrite concentration pr esent in the waste.
