Abstract
Minimization of transition slabs in continuous casting operations is c ritical for optimum quality and productivity. The number of these slab s is closely related to the tundish geometry and operating practice. T herefore, tundish flow and mixing with various tundish configurations and different tundish operating levels are investigated through comput er simulation. Residence time distributions and transitional concentra tion profiles are predicted. Finally, practical operations for a grade change to reduce transition slabs are assessed.
