Maximilian Print zu Wied (1782-1867) renowned for his scientific explo
rations of Brazil (1815-1817) and North America (1832-1834) is accorde
d a place among the ranks of the most important naturalists and ethnol
ogists of his time. His reputation as a hunter in his native principal
ity Wied is just as great. In two artistically designed volumes ''THE
HUNTER'S GREEN BOOK'' he recorded his hunting bag as well as numerous
observations and other data. His personal hunting results are entered
in Tables 1 and 4, the results for the entire principality are present
ed in Tables 5-7, and those for hunting drives in Table 8. The 1000 ha
Game Park at Wied, existent from 1831 to 1865 was planned, managed, a
nd used for hunting by him, as well as being the object of his observa
tions of nature.
