Mf. Hodges et Dg. Krementz, NEOTROPICAL MIGRATORY BREEDING BIRD COMMUNITIES IN RIPARIAN FORESTS OF DIFFERENT WIDTHS ALONG THE ALTAMAHA RIVER, GEORGIA, The Wilson bulletin, 108(3), 1996, pp. 496-506
We surveyed riparian forest corridors of different widths along the lo
wer Altamaha River in Georgia in 1993 and 1994 to investigate the rela
tionship between forest corridor width and Neotropical breeding bird c
ommunity diversity and abundance-Species richness and abundance of thr
ee of six focal. species increased with increasing forest corridor wid
th. We suggest if Neotropical breeding bird communities are a target g
roup, that land managers should consider leaving a 100 m buffer strip
along riparian zones.
