Abstract
Microwave heating plays a significant role in the processing of materi als in industry, but the applicator design is generally done without n umerical methods or simulations because of the difficulty of the desig n problem. Much research has shown that the finite difference time dom ain method can model complex geometries and analyze many types of elec tromagnetic problems. This paper will employ this approach to study th ree major types of microwave heating applicators and thereby demonstra te the capabilities of this technique to analyze a variety of microwav e heating applicators.
