The presence of various flavonoids, naphthodianthrones and phlorogluci
nol derivatives was studied in the natural pentaploid hybrid H. macula
tum CRANTZ subsp. maculatum x H. perforatum L. The hybrid taxon was sh
own to have secondary metabolites in common with both putative parents
thus confirming its parentage. Morphological and nomenclatural questi
ons are briefly discussed.
