The Skytrain Fraser River Crossing near Vancouver is a cable-stayed br
idge completed in late 1988. The bridge is located in a highly seismic
area with different soil conditions on the two banks of the river and
liquefaction potential in the event of a major earthquake. This paper
discusses the analysis and design considerations of the bridge for ea
rthquake effects. Discussed in the paper are site conditions, design c
riteria, input motion, analysis methods, and design parameters.
