Abstract
To establish the BRST invariant functional variational method for gaug e field theories in the covariant gauge, we have computed the Gaussian effective potential of the Abelian Higgs model in the functional Schr odinger picture. We obtain the same result as that of Ibanez-Meier, St ancu, and Stevenson, but we have used the BRST invariant variational p rocedures.
