Abstract
By means of a number of examples drawn from the author's personal expe
rience, many analogies that exist between gravitational (galactic) pla
smas and electromagnetic plasmas are considered, so that progress is m
ade based on a fruitful exchange of methods and ideas. A few key issue
s regarding the collective behavior of galaxies that still stand out a
s largely unresolved are pointed out as well.
