A linear, flexible polymer (in dilute solution with a good solvent) en
ters a pore (of diameter D smaller than its gyration radius R) only wh
en the suction flux J is larger than a threshold value J(cl) congruent
to kT/eta (T: temperature; eta: solvent viscosity). We discuss here t
he case of an f arm star polymer (f >> 1). The results suggest that pe
rmeation through nanopores may provide an interesting characterization
of mixtures containing linear and branched polymers with the same ove
rall molecular weight.
