Four novel metal-free, potentially heterodinucleating ligands, P1, P2,
P3, and P4, have been successfully synthesized and characterized. The
se ligands consist of a 5,15-diphenylporphyrin with a covalently appen
ded strap containing potentially tridentate groups: 2,6-bis[(aminotosy
l)methyl]pyridine (P1), 2,6-bis[(aminomethyl)methyl] pyridine (P2),2,6
-bis(carboxylato)pyridine (P3) and ether-bridged bis-pyridine (P4). Et
her groups covalently link these chelating straps to the o-positions o
f the two porphyrin phenyl rings. The crystal structures of P3 and P4
are reported. Crystal data: P3 .(CH3OH,3H(2)O)(C44H41N5O10), monoclini
c, space group P2(1)/n with a = 9.245 (2), b = 36.216 (9), c = 11.771
(3) Angstrom, beta = 96.53 (2)degrees, Z = 4; P4 .(CH2Cl2H2O) (C47H38N
6Cl2O4), monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c with a = 13.230 (4), b = 15.8
72 (6), c = 1.8.813 (6) Angstrom, beta = 103.36 (2)degrees, Z = 4. The
UV-vis and H-1 NMR spectral properties of the four ligands are also r
eported as well as the MS spectral properties of P1 and P4.
