Abstract
The authors describe novel dispersion variable fibre Bragg grating dev ice using a segmented piezoelectric stack to combat chromatic dispersi on. By applying appropriate voltages to the independently controlled c onstituent segments, it is shown that the dispersion can be varied fro m similar to 8770 to similar to 940 ps/nm with an increase in bandwidt h from similar to 0.03 to similar to 0.32 nm.
