The heterotetranuclear (CuPbII)-Pb-II complex containing 2-dimethylami
noethanol has been synthesized using copper powder and PbI2 as startin
g materials and characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal co
mprises dimeric centrosymmetric molecules {Cu2Pb2[(CH3)(2)NCH2CH2O]I-4
(4)(DMSO)(2)} bridged by oxygen atoms of chelated 2-dimethylaminoethox
o groups, and DMSO molecules of crystallization. The nearest copper co
ordination environment has a somewhat distorted square planar geometry
. The coordination geometry around the Pb atom is a highly distorted o
ctahedron. The bridging oxygen atoms arrange a strictly planar central
Pb2O2 rhombus in the structure of the complex. Copyright (C) 1996 Els
