The reaction of the tridentate rigid ligand PNP (2,6-bis(diphenylphosp
hinomethyl)pyridine) with RuCl2(PPh(3))(3) led to the formation of two
new ruthenium(II) complexes, RuCl2(PNP)(PPh(3)) (1) and [RuCl(MeCN)(P
NP)(PPh(3))]Cl (2), which were analytically and spectroscopically char
acterized. The X-ray diffraction study of 1 shows that the PNP ligand
coordinates Ru in a meridional mode, and reveals some steric congestio
n within the complex. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
