Abstract
Since the annihilation (p) over bar p --> pi(+)pi(-) at low energies p roceeds when the distances between all quarks and antiquarks are small (r similar to 0.4 fm), all hadrons are in compressed configurations, and their absorption in nuclei is expected to be weak. The influence o f this on the A dependence of the yield of correlated pi(+)pi(-) pairs created in the annihilation of antiprotons on bound protons is analyz ed.
