Auger spectra are generally interpreted as decay of a core-ionized sta
te. However, not only the pure core-hole state but also shake-up and s
hake-off configurations contribute to conventionally excited spectra.
The interpretation becomes difficult whenever the various Auger transi
tions are observed at the same kinetic energy. Using Auger-photoelectr
on coincidence spectroscopy we here demonstrate the possibility to obt
ain unique decay spectra of the pure core ionized single hole state an
d the singlet coupled 1s(-1)1 pi(u)(-1)1 pi(g)((IIu)-I-1) shake-up sat
ellite state of N-2.
