Abstract
A direct substitution of the phenylsulfonyl group is observed during t he reaction of Grignard reagents with beta-phenylsulfonyl-gamma-oxo ar enebutanenitriles in the presence of LiClO4. Primary, secondary and fu nctionalized organo magnesium reagents can be profitably used for this procedure.
