Hydrometallurgical processing of low grade chromite (Barramiya, Egypt)
is attained through leaching with sodium hydroxide of mechanically ac
tivated chromite ores under relatively high temperature (240 degrees C
) in the presence of oxygen pressure (10 bar), The effects of temperat
ure, grinding time, leaching time acid oxygen partial pressure on chro
mium extraction were studied, The residual black sludge has a high iro
n content and nearly negligible chromium and sodium contents, which mi
nimize disposal problems.
