Thin films of CdS and CdTe are deposited using electrochemical methods
for utilisation in glass/ITO/CdS/CdTe/metal solar cells. Resulting fi
lms are characterised by XRD for determination of bulk structure, opti
cal absorption/transmission for energy band gap measurements and XPS f
or monitoring the stoichiometry of the materials. These results and th
e photovoltaic properties of the preliminary structures fabricated wit
h these films are discussed and presented in this communication.
