Abstract
A new method of calculation of binary-phase diffractive optical elemen ts (DOEs) is proposed. The design uses a specific series expression fo r the binary DOE transmission function and it is based on the gradient search algorithm for optimization of non-binary truncated series appr oaching the binary complex transmission function. Fast designs of bina ry beam-shapers and multiorder binary gratings with equal older intens ities are reported with efficiency in the range 72-75% and root-mean-s quare errors of 3-5%.
