Abstract
The presence of a double peak waveform in the primary cortical complex of the somatosensory evoked potentials is a rare finding. In this stu dy we investigated 9 patients (mean age +/- SD: 31.3 +/- 11.3 years) w ith this phenomenon of the two subcomponents of the N20 response after stimulation of the median nerve. The results of the heterogenous pati ent group showed that the generation of the second subcomponent is for patients with severe head injury not pathognomonic, that it could be reversibel, and that medication induced effects are presumable respons ible for that phenomenon.
