There has been dynamic development in landscape ecology over last 30 y
ears. Troll (1970) considered it a science of the future, joining ecol
ogy and geography. Hard (1973) criticizes it as problematic, contradic
ting the theoretical recognized mission of science. But if landscape e
cology is understood as a research field oriented to environmental pro
tection (as asked of it by Hard), incorporating different disciplines
with their expertise and discussion of it are not topical. Our landsca
pe ecology has developed this way from its very origins.
