Pain and discomfort due to peripheral nerve lesion may be intermittent
or continuous, waxing and waning or constant in its intensity. Terms
commonly used to describe the quality of pain are sharp, burning, achi
ng, boring of tearing. The pain may occur spontaneously or it may be p
rovoked by different factors, which have to be analysed, Of much impor
tance is the site of the pain, because this frequently is the clue for
the recognition of the nerve (or nerve root) involved.
